Aggregates degrade under vehicular traffic loading and environmental effect, which then cause the reduction in road skid resistance, a serious threat to transportation safety. This project aims to develop imaging technology for high precision reconstruction of pavement surface 3D topology and to develop predictive models for assessing pavement skid resistance based on pavement texture. Developed predictive models of the International Friction Index (IFI), British Pendulum Number (BPN), Dynamic Friction Coefficient (DFC), and Skid Number (SN) based on high-accuracy surface topology.
